Ramaphosa promises to fast-track Eskom revamp
6 November 2019, 2:47 PM

President Cyril Ramaphosa has assured potential investors that plans are in place to support Eskom. He says a new Eskom CEO will be appointed in the next few days while the power utility is expected to be revamped soon.

Eskom owes its creditors over R400 billion and does not generate enough cash to even pay the interest on its debt. It will be split into three subsidiaries namely – generation, transmission and distribution.

Listen to President Ramaphosa:

Earlier the President said the ease of doing business in South Africa had significantly been improved. He says it’s now faster and easier to register a business than was the case in the past.

Ramaphosa says progress has been made in improving the visa regime to support tourism and the Integrated Resource Plan has been approved to provide certainty around government’s preferred energy mix.

However, some experts have warned that this could lead to increased inefficiencies, especially if competition is allowed.

The investment conference calls on potential investors to engage with government and business representative on new investment opportunities.

Senzo Meyiwa
AfriForum to assist Meyiwa family in investigating goalie’s death
6 November 2019, 9:52 AM

Members of the family of the slain Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa (27) believe that AfriForum will be able to crack the murder case of their loved one.

They say they decided to approach Afriforum for help since the police have been dragging their investigations.

Meyiwa was shot and killed in an alleged botched robbery five years ago at a house in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg. The goalie was gunned down in the presence of his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, and her family members.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has yet to make any prosecutions in the matter and Meyiwa’s brother Sifiso says the police know the suspect, but a third force is trying to block the prosecution of the person.

Sifiso said, “We are the ones as a family who approached them. I went on behalf of the family to ask for help since the NPA failed to deliver. Afriforum is going to work with police investigators who were appointed by Minister Bheki Cele and continue where they ended…”

“The suspect is known by the police, they know who did this. They finalised everything but the NPA doesn’t want to prosecute, we think someone is involved behind this,” added Sifiso.
