The three labour unions at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) are threatening legal action against the public broadcaster if the board and management continue with its proposed changes without consultation.
SABC Board Chairperson Bongumusa Makhatini says allegations that some Board members are involved in an irregular security tender at the public broadcaster, are being investigated.
SABC’s spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says the public broadcaster is aiming to lead in the production of news across the country.
The new SABC board is currently seeking legal council on which of its SABC staff should be vetted.
Parliament’s Communications Portfolio Committee Chairperson Humphrey Maxegwana says the committee does not want the public broadcaster to experience the same problems as it did in 2016.
