The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has requested an urgent meeting with Parliament to discuss the challenges that workers are facing.
This comes as 6 000 postal workers face retrenchments and South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) workers have not had a pay rise in three years.
Cosatu has since written to various committees in Parliament requesting them to intervene in matters concerning the workers.
The trade union’s General Secretary Solly Phetoe says what is happening at the SABC is unacceptable.
Phetoe says, “The issue about the SABC is that it does not have money. It’s not a matter of workers, it’s a matter of mismanagement and incapacity of people deployed in the SABC Board and management. Therefore workers cannot be punished on this matter.
“On the Post Office and MTN, we are preparing a process also for a problem of acts here. It cannot be correct that workers must be punished for the mismanagement and incapacity of the Post Office,” he adds.
