The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Chairperson of the Uthukela District Mbuzeni Mkhize has escaped unharmed after unknown persons shot him at Weenen in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands.
Political analyst, Zakhele Ndlovu, says the new leader of the Inkatha Freedom Party will face various challenges, including growing the party into one that is popular among provinces other than KwaZulu-Natal.
Velenkosini Hlabisa is the new IFP president, taking over from the long-time leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
Mangosuthu Buthelezi is expected to step down as the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader. The party’s secretary-general Velenkosini Hlabisa has been taunted as the next leader to take over the reigns.
The IFP has described the killing of its councillor Mthembeni Majola as a second and sadly successful assassination attempt. Majola was gunned down in Estcourt in the province’s midlands.
