Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader, Velenkosini Hlabisa, has called on South African voters to go to the polls in large numbers on the 29th of May to give the African National Congress (ANC) government a red card on unemployment, load shedding, crime, and corruption.

He was addressing a mini-rally in KwaMashu, north of Durban. This after he and other members of the IFP’s national executive committee crisscrossed KwaZulu-Natal ahead of the party’s national election manifesto launch next Sunday in Durban.

Speaking at a mini-rally Hlabisa says unemployment, crime, and corruption will be among the key issues in their election campaign. Hlabisa says South Africans cannot afford another five years of ANC rule.

“In 1994 we stood in long queues for more than one day because we were determined to remove the apartheid government that was not helping us. In 2024 is an opportunity for all of us to go to the voting station and stand in long queues and remove the government that has failed us.”

The IFP leader says an ANC MP said in Parliament that load shedding is not the end of the world.

“Load shedding has marked an end to the future of our youth, small business people who had to close their businesses because of load shedding. To them, the world came to an end.”

Hlabisa went on to say that rights enshrined in the Constitution are meaningless if government fails to deliver basic services.

“Your right to health care, your right to water, and even to freely choose your occupation are rendered meaningless when the government fails to deliver basic services and destroy the economy. The IFP is ready to govern.”

The IFP’s banners for the 2024 election bear the face of its late founder, Mangosuthu Buthelezi. Hlabisa says the campaign is dedicated to Buthelezi in recognition of the contribution he made to the country.

“There is no better present to thank him than winning KwaZulu-Natal, than bringing the ruling party below 50% at a national level, and allow the IFP to lead the government of KwaZulu-Natal and to be part of government at a national level where we will introduce his vision.”

Hlabisa asked supporters to invite everyone they know to attend the manifesto launch in Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium so that people can make up their own minds on which party offers the best solutions to the country’s problems.
