Eastern Cape on the right path in implementing government’s DDM: Mashatile

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Deputy President, Paul Mashatile says the Eastern Cape is on the right path in implementing government’s 2019 District Development Model (DDM).

The aim of the development model, was to ensure synergy in service delivery across the three spheres of local, provincial and national government.

Addressing a business meeting in East-London, Mashatile says even though there are challenges of load shedding in the country, the province is turning the tide.

Mashatile is on a two day visit in the province to monitor the implementation of the Model. The Deputy President says under spending by provincial governments hinders the delivery of services to communities.

“Let’s get implementation right you will see things will happen. But if money is not being spent its being returned to Treasury then you can’t complain about money. Let’s use the resources we have to be able to achieve our goals.”

Yesterday in Lusikisiki Mashatile lamented the rising crime rate and the lack of service delivery in the area. He says the implementation of the municipal district development model to provide services, will include other sectors.

Mashatile emphasized the importance of partnerships between government, traditional leaders and the business sector to ensure communities receives proper services.
