African National Congress (ANC) January 8 birthday celebrations have started at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

On Saturday, the party hosts its 110th birthday celebration at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Local artists like Mahlatsi Vocal and other cultural groups are performing while some ANC supporters continue to sing along and dance.

The ANC January 8 Statement is used to chart a way forward for the year ahead.

The keynote address will be delivered by ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Earlier, jubilant members and supporters some dressed in their ANC regalia were dancing as large speakers were playing struggle songs.

Some of those in attendance say they want to hear the party President address issues like youth unemployment and job creation.

Meanwhile, security in and around the stadium has been tightened.

A police helicopter continues hovering around while marked and unmarked police vehicles continue to patrol the stadium precinct.
