African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to deliver the January 8 Statement address at the Old Peter Mokaba stadium in Limpopo on Saturday in celebration of the party’s 110th anniversary on Saturday.

Delivering a prelude address to members of the business community in Polokwane on Friday night, Ramaphosa said it was imperative for the party to be renewed in order to connect with the people.

ANC hosts a gala dinner ahead of its 110th anniversary celebrations:

Some of the key pillars that the President reflected on included building ANC branches, fighting corruption and patronage as a well making the party more youthful.

Ramaphosa says the strategy to renew and rebuild the ANC was agreed on during Thursday’s National Executive Committee meeting.

“The ANC NEC has agreed to intensify and accelerate renewal focusing more energy on renewal and rebuilding, which should be based on some key pillars that include building ANC branches as agents of change with a membership that respects and is respected by the people – but we also want to build a more youthful organisation.”

On Friday, Ramaphosa hailed the former African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) leader Peter Mokaba as a gallant leader of the struggle.

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s keynote address:

Ramaphosa also encouraged young people to emulate Mokaba’s life.  “The ANC will never die, the ANC has got the power and the capacity to self-correct. We will correct ourselves and we will get rid of unwanted elements within our ranks. So we want to say to comrade Peter, we are still here, we are continuing with our struggle, thank you for the contribution that you have made and we have learnt from you.”
