Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu, says the country doesn’t have a national water crisis. Gauteng residents could find themselves without water for the next few days as Rand Water does maintenance on its pumps and pipes.
Rand Water says they will be installing a new pipe that will increase the amount of water that’s being drawn from the Vaal River into their treatment plant and increase supply to local municipalities.
The minister has asked for patience over the next coming days as the pipelines are being worked on.
“I want to highlight two things; first, it’s to allay the fears of the affected areas and the people of South Africa that we don’t have a crisis of water. On average, we are not in any crisis of water. But in Gauteng, in particular, it’s a question of the work that is being done for the number of hours and we are inviting the public to be patient with us and we want to apologise for any inconvenience that will be caused during this maintenance programme,” says Mchunu.
