The three men accused of theft of foreign currency at President Cyril Ramaphosa's Phala Phala farm have appeared in the Bela-Bela Magistrate's Court in Limpopo. The three face charges of housebreaking, theft, and conspiracy to steal. They allegedly stole 580-thousand-US dollars at the president's farm in February 2020. The Southern African Faith Communities, Environment Institute, together with their partners, Earthlife Africa Johannesburg, The Green Connection, and Koeberg Alert Alliance, among others, held a vigil at Parliament in Cape Town. This is to mark the 7th Anniversary of the landmark court ruling against the illegal Nuclear Deal in the Western Cape High Court in 2017 and also the 38th commemoration of the Chernobyl Disaster. The organisations say the disaster is a cautionary tale of the destructive capabilities of nuclear energy and used the vigil to highlight current threats and ongoing efforts to safeguard South Africa from unsuitable energy sources.
