Water systems should be given time to recover: Rand Water

Water utility Rand Water says that water systems should be given time to recover following extensive maintenance work that lasted 58-hours, causing water cuts in some parts of Johannesburg.

Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo, says the work which comprised of activities at Eikenhof, and Zwartkopies pumping stations, as well as Vereeniging and Zuikerbosch water treatment plants was successfully completed.

She also explained why some people who had water during the maintenance period are now without water.

“We have completed the project within the 58-hours, now what we’re doing is we are charging the system and also filling up reservoirs. So, what we are experiencing now is some of the reservoirs that had water, are beginning to run empty because people had been using water. We haven’t been pumping for the past 58- hours, now that we are filling up the reservoirs again, it means the recovery time will be shorter for those people who had water before. But, I need to caution that for the high lying areas, it might take several days for the system to fully recover,” says Maroo
