Mpumalanga police have arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of an ANC member during a meeting of the ANC youth league in Mpumalanga’s Gert Sibande region.
A member of the MKMVA who was commissioned to provide security at the regional conference was shot and killed at the event on Saturday night.
He was apparently trying to defuse tensions when the incident occurred.
ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule says the act is unacceptable.
He says, “That is ill-discipline of the highest order for people to shoot each other in a conference of the ANC. We are going to address that matter, we need to get facts of what happened. I have said generally we have condemned this, killings are killings, there is no politics there and police must act as they have acted in other cases. If the police did not act we were still going to say these are political killings when people were actually doing their little things.”
