Police Spokesperson Chris Spies says the suspect was arrested and is in custody.
“The Mossel Bay FCS unit is investigating a case of rape following an incident near Mossel Bay on Friday afternoon. The investigation into this incident led to the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect. The suspect is still in custody.”
Provincial Department of Transport and Public Works spokesperson, Jandre Bekker, says the victim has been moved to a place of safety.
“Quarantine and isolation sites are under the guardianship of the Department of Transport and Public Works. This specific site is not under the ownership of the department and we appointed a management agent to manage it on our behalf. Services that they manage include cleaning and security services. The department received a report of an alleged sexual assault at its Mossel Bay quarantine and isolation facility. We take any such allegation very seriously. The suspect, an employee of the appointed cleaning company, was taken into custody by the SAPS. The managing agent is on the site and trying to identify how something like that could have happened and how we can avoid something like this in the future.”
