South Africans called to join hands with government in exposing corruption

Reading Time: < 1 minute

President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on South Africans to join hands with government in exposing corruption. He was addressing the commemoration of Human Rights Day at Koster in the North West.

The President says corruption and State Capture have eroded human rights and weakened state institutions, reversing the gains made to fight for equality.

2022 marks 62 years since the Sharpeville Massacre where the apartheid government brutally killed 69 people and wounded 180 others during a peaceful march against pass laws.

Ramaphosa says the country will remain stagnant should corruption continue.

“Because of corruption, our people are forced to pay more for services. As a community, we, therefore, need to join hands and make sure that we bring this to an end. We cannot reduce poverty and inequality as long as public money is being stolen.”
