The search for a 12-year-old Soweto girl, who slipped and fell into the Henley River, at Meyerton in Gauteng is continuing. Zethembe Shezi was swept away behind the library at Henley on Klip on Saturday afternoon.

The girl was visiting her father at the weekend and was heading home with her two cousins and youngest brother after they found the library closed.

The search – including using scuba divers – has been disrupted by recent heavy rainfall.

Her aunt, Pamella Mallela says the family is anxious.

“There is footage from the local CPF that shows how the others attempted to rescue her, but they couldn’t. So, we are now dealing with trauma counselling for the three that saw that and they are not in a position to speak. We’ve been trying everything. Apparently, they’ve been trying, and they simply cannot go into seemingly rough waters. I can tell you as a family, we are overwhelmed by anxiety, the weight.”
