Registrations proceeding smoothly at Wits

Wits University management says the student registration processes for the 2024 academic year is proceeding smoothly. The institution attributes this to them having addressed some of the challenges faced by students including funding.

In previous years this period was marred by disruptions and student protests over delays in National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) payments of student allowances and lack of funding for tuition fees.

Wits says it has received 140 000 applications for the 2024 academic year.

The University can only cater for 6 300 first year students.

“There are a number of things that we are doing. We started conversations with the SRC a little earlier. We have been proactive in anticipating what some of those challenges maybe. And we have put a range of concessions in place to be able to assist our students. This week is our first-year students and the rest next week, to assist as many students as we possibly can,” says Wits Dean of Student Affairs, Jerome September.
