Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town Thabo Makgoba has urged President Cyril Ramaphosa to commit to a new struggle of values and institutions that cannot be undermined by one party or an individual.

Makgoba says Ramaphosa and the African National Congress should embrace, what he says is a new struggle for equality and strong institutions.

He made these comments during the Easter vigil where he was delivering at the St. George’s Cathedral in Cape Town on Saturday night.

Makgoba called on South Africans to never again allow their leaders to let them down or keep them down.

“My wish this Easter is that President Ramaphosa and the ANC should see this time as a moment in history to embrace the principles and objectives of the new struggle, a struggle to which we all should commit, a struggle for equality, a struggle about values and institutions rather than personalities, a struggle to build strong systems which cannot be undermined by one party or person’s whim,” said Makgoba.
