Police investigating case of culpable homicide in Watson’s accident

National police spokesperson Katlego Mogale could not however confirm the identity of the deceased.

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after the CEO of Bosasa, now known as African Global Operations, Gavin Watson died in a car crash on the R21 near the OR Tambo Airport, East of Johannesburg, Monday morning.

Watson was driving into the airport when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle and collided with a concrete pillar holding up a highway bridge. He was certified dead on the scene.

Watson has been implicated at the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture in relation to allegations of corruption at Bosasa.

National police spokesperson Katlego Mogale could not however confirm the identity of the deceased.

“This morning a 73-year- old man was involved in an accident near the O. R. Tambo International Airport. It’s allegedly he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a concrete pillar holding up a highway bridge. At this stage his identity is being withheld because his next of kin has not been notified of his passing as yet.”

STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF GAVIN WATSON:
It is with a profound sense of loss and deep sadness that we confirm the passing of Gavin Watson.

He was involved in a motor vehicle accident around the OR Tambo International Airport this morning.

We would like to urge the public and the media to give the family space and time to mourn his passing privately.

The family will not be conducting any interviews.
