Pinetown shooting incident leaves woman dead: IPSS

One person was killed in a gunshot on Edwin Swales Road in Pinetown, west of Durban. According to IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Gareth Jamieson, the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Paramedics assessed the female believed to be in her late thirties who sustained a gunshot wound to her head, she unfortunately showed no signs of life and was declared dead on scene.

Paramedics have handed the scene over to SAPS.

Jamieson says, “At this stage events leading up to the shooting are unknown however SAPS are in attendance and will be investigating further.”

Extortion

Meanwhile in Gugulethu in the Cape Flats, two suspects aged 29 and 34 were arrested on charges of extortion and pointing a firearm.

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk says officers were on routine patrol when they stopped two suspicious men walking down the street at NY 108.

Van Wyk says, “They stopped and searched them and confiscated a Glock 17, 9mm pistol with 30 rounds of ammunition. One of these males produced a firearm licence and while the members were busy inspecting the firearm and licence an unknown member of the community came running to the members and informed them that they were pointed with a firearm by the same males and that they extorted money from them. An undisclosed amount of cash was also found on the suspects, who will make their court appearance once they have been charged.”
