The Social Justice Coalition says it’s disappointed in the High Court judgment which found two men, accused of raping and killing 19-year-old Sinoxolo Mafevuka from Khayelitsha not guilty.

Two cousins, Xolisa and Athabile Mafilika were arrested shortly after Mafevuka was found naked and strangled to death in March last year.

In his judgment on Monday Judge Taswell Papier found the evidence presented to the court was of poor quality.

Head of Social Justice, Dalli Weyers says the investigation officer responsible for the case did not handle it with the seriousness it deserves.

“As the Social Justice coalitions, we are obviously dismayed that justice hasn’t run its course. We feel that in this incident the court with the available evidence in front of it made a rational decision and so passed a rational judgment,” says Weyers.
