Mandela funeral fraud case back in Eastern Cape court

The trial against the accused in former President Nelson Mandela’s funeral fraud is expected to resume in the High Court in Bisho in the Eastern Cape on Monday.

The accused persons are charged with fraud, money laundering and contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA).

They include former Buffalo City Speaker, Simon-Ndzele, former Mayor Zukiswa Ncitha, former Deputy Mayor Themba Tinta, former Eastern Cape Health MEC, Sindiswa Gomba and the Municipality’s former Supply Chain Manager, Thembelani Sali.

All the accused have pleaded not guilty.

The State is expected to call its third witness in the case, with over 30 witnesses having been lined up to testify in the case.

They are accused of being part of the alleged embezzlement of R10 million from the Buffalo City Metro, during the memorial and funeral of former president Nelson Mandela in 2013.
