Suspects appear in court for murder of German tourist

Three foreign nationals linked to the murder of a 74-year-old German tourist in Northam, Limpopo, are set to make their first court appearance in the local magistrates’ court.

The police report indicates that the deceased was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money and other valuables before being fatally assaulted. The tourist had picked up a hitch-hiker and later his accomplices at a different location. The 74-year-old had recently arrived in the country from Botswana.

The suspects were apprehended in the Moruleng area in the North West Province.

According to police, the murdered tourist had developed a friendship with a hitch-hiker and his associates.

The preliminary investigation reveals that the tourist drove with the suspects to a booked accommodation facility. Upon arrival, the suspects allegedly tied up and assaulted the elderly German man, demanding his bank pin.

Subsequently, he was assaulted, and his body was dumped in the bushes in Northam. The nationalities of the suspects will be disclosed during their court appearance.
