Homage will be paid to former President Nelson Mandela through several films at this year’s Durban International Film Festival.

Now in its 39th year, the festival will show over a 180 films from across the continent.

Human rights lawyer and close friend to Mandela, George Bizos is one of the narrators of the film:”The State Against Mandela and the others”.

He represented Mandela and other ANC leaders during the 1963 Rivonia Trial.

Remembering the widespread international support the trial received, Bizos says: “I remember the morning that I was going to go to Pretoria to see them and Brahm Fischer the leader of our team came home very early in the morning with a batch of newspapers and he said George you are going to see our clients. Take these newspapers with you which are claiming throughout the world for their release.”

“I became a bad guy for apartheid but I survived.”
