English media seemingly not letting go of Mbonambi allegations

The rugby world governing body has confirmed that it is looking into the England flanker, Tom Curry’s racism allegations against the Springboks’ team hooker Bongi Mbonambi.

It says it views allegations of discriminatory behaviour in an extremely serious light.

The alleged incident happened during the semi-final match last week. If found guilty, Mbonambi could face a suspension, which would be a huge blow for the Boks ahead at the final.

Meanwhile, the Boks are reported to be in good spirits at their training camp ahead of the final 2023 Rugby World Cup game against the All Blacks in Paris on Saturday.

SABC reporter Simon Burke is in Paris ahead of the final says Mbonambi looks comfortable and is his old bubbly self.

“But I’m happy to report that when we were at practise we saw a very together sight marching on to the training field. Bongi Mbonambi wasn’t putting on an act, he was his animated as usual. He was amongst the forwards they were getting on with things. They were in the rain, not so nice conditions that you wouldn’t thought there was anything to go by.”

Burke also says UK media appears to be the pushing for the issue.

“It was when we got to the press conference that the English journalist, who should be following England by the way, don’t know what they are doing in a Springbok presser. But there were many of them and its all the daily newspapers. So, that immediately you know raises your eyebrows because these are the guys that write headlines that don’t have to be true, they just have to throw out to the other, and they are the ones that kept on hammering home about this point.”
