Lungisa was given until Wednesday by the State Attorney to retract his comments.

Convicted former Nelson Mandela Bay African National Congress councillor, Andile Lungisa, has retracted the statement he made against the judiciary.
Lungisa had accused the judiciary of political influence in his case. Lungisa was given until Wednesday by the State Attorney to retract his comments.
He is currently serving a two-year prison sentence at the North End Prison for assaulting a Democratic Alliance councillor. He had opted to stay in jail despite being granted a R10 000 bail while petitioning the Constitutional Court for leave to appeal.
Lungisa is granted bail:
His attorney Alwyn Griebenow, has paid him a visit and received a statement from him.

The statement reading as follows: “I Andile Lungisa hereby retracts the remarks made by me against the judiciary on the 17th of September 2020 as I was about to hand myself to the authorities at North End Correctional Facility. Dated at Port Elizabeth on this 30th day of September 2020 and it was signed by Mr Lungisa.”
