Kimberley residents in the Northern Cape say the African National Congeress (ANC) 55th National Conference is far removed from the issues on the ground.
The Conference is currently under way at Nasrec in Johannesburg.
Residents say ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa in his opening address failed to outline proper plans on how the Party will address unemployment and crime.
They maintain that the Conference is only relevant and beneficial to ANC members and the conference will fail to elect more women to the top 6.
“I am watching the Conference now and they don’t touch much on the challenges that the youth of South Africa is facing. The unemployment that is so high in South Africa, how are they going to solve it? They don’t touch much on how they are going to improve the lives of our youth,” says a Kimberley resident.
“I am not really happy with the Conference of the ANC, even what the outcome is going to be because at the end less women are going to be in the top six and it will be majority men,” adds another resident.

Meanwhile, former speaker of the national assembly and convenor of the ANC Women’s League task team, Baleka Mbete says that while she endorses incumbent president Ramaphosa for party presidency – it remains to be seen if he will be victorious.
Mbete says much still has to happen at the conference.
