The 43-year-old farmworker who was shot and killed at Tarlton, outside Krugersdorp in Gauteng, has been laid to rest at his home village of Mangilasi outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo.
Aaron Mutavhatsindi was driving a tractor when he was killed, allegedly by a security guard.
The suspect, who has been arrested, accused Mutavhatsindi of stealing the tractor.
Some of the mourners at Aaron Mutavhatsindi’s funeral travelled through the night from Gauteng to Limpopo to bid him farewell.
Dressed in EFF, ANC and DA regalia, the mourners vowed that justice will be served, and that Mutavhatsindi’s killer will be brought to book.
The local traditional leadership and residents of Vuwani and Mangilasi also joined the mourners.
African National Congress (ANC) Ward 30 councillor at Mogale City Local Municipality, Dikgang Sithole told the mourners that the community believed Mutavhatsindi’s killing was racially motivated.
EFF Chairperson in the Tarlton area, Petrus Mabote says their party will use all legal avenues to make sure that the suspect is prosecuted.
“We, as EFF, we are going to make sure that the law takes its course because it was a brutal murder of our brother in front of the people. We have got representative of the council who said they will take this matter up to the highest court.”
A family representative Takalani Mukwevho was present when Mutavhatsindi died.
Mukwevho says he was shot by a single bullet in the head and died when paramedics were attending to him.
“He died in my hands after we tried to assist him. We took him by car to the hospital. On our way there we realised the ambulance was at the police station. We went there and asked them to attend to him. They tried to help him, but later, after ten minutes, they declared him dead.”
A 46-year-old suspect was arrested and appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court on Monday. He will appear again in court for bail application on Monday.
