Gauteng Agriculture MEC Lebogang Maile is expected to visit the family of a farmworker who was killed for stealing a tractor at Tarlton outside Krugersdorp, far west of Johannesburg.
Aaron Mutavhatsidi, who worked as tractor driver at Bartlett Egg farm, was shot and killed after he was accused of having stolen the tractor.
A suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
Maile’s spokesperson Castro Ngobese says reports have since surfaced of clashes between farm owners and workers in the area.
“The MEC will be going there to visit the family and offer condolences on behalf of the provincial government. But also engage with the community since the tensions are very high in the area and also articulate governments attitude to killings of farm workers and what should be done moving forward,” adds Ngobese.
