MKMVA distances itself from shooting outside Madikizela-Mandela’s home

The Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) has distanced itself from a shooting incident outside the home of struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela‘s house in Soweto.

Some mourners chanting revolutionary songs are reported to have fired shots in the air on Friday night.

Earlier, the African National Congress strongly condemned the incident and urged mourners to respect Mama Winnie’s family. MKMVA national spokesperson Carl Niehaus says they will co-operate with the police.

“We will co-operate fully with the investigation. The South African Police Force has now instituted into these allegations. We are again calling on every member of Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association to desist from  undisciplined behaviour, from any shooting into the air and to mourn mama in a respectful manner.”
