Man in court for shooting son

A man is on Thursday expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto after he allegedly shot and killed his son, whom he mistook for a criminal.

Police say the man dropped off his son at Fred Norman Secondary school in Ennerdale, south of Johannesburg, on Tuesday night.

He  fell asleep while waiting for his son inside the vehicle. When the son knocked on the car window, he got frightened and allegedly shot the boy.

The boy died on the way to hospital.

Police spokesperson Mpande Khoza says the man faces a charge of murder.

“He will appear at the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Thursday,” says Khoza.
