DA still gunning for Mkhwebane’s head

Democratic Alliance chief whip, John Steenhuisen, says he will provide evidence before Parliament’s Justice committee on why the Public Protector should be removed from her position.

His party has been calling for Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane to be removed since last year, following scathing court judgments against her.

The Speaker of the National Assembly referred the matter to the Justice committee to decide if and how such a request must be dealt with.

Steenhuisen explains the basis of the DA’s request “The three elements which the constitution qualifies for the removal being misconduct, incompetence or the inability to perform her function, and we will focus very clearly on that, also providing variety of examples of why we believe this enquiry should be taking place.”
