The second of the Human Rights Day celebrations is about to get underway in Sharpeville Gauteng.

Government officials including Deputy President David Mabuza, Gauteng Premier David Makhura and family representatives are expected to visit the Sharpeville Memorial Site.

The site, also referred to as the ‘Sharpeville Human Rights Precinct’ is opposite the police station where 69 people were killed during an anti-pass laws protest in 1960.

A wrath laying ceremony will take place at the site.

People have also begun to gather at the Sharpeville Stadium where Mabuza is expected to deliver the main address of the day.
