A team of social workers has been dispatched to investigate an incident of rape following reports of a 52-year-old man accused of having sex with his biological daughter for more than 12 years at Bulwer in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands.

It is believed that the victim lost her mother, but stayed with her sibling, the father and her stepmother.

It is alleged that the victim who is now 21-years-old has since fallen pregnant, but it is not confirmed whether it is her own father who impregnated her.

Spokesperson for the KZN Department of Social Development Mhlabunzima Memela says, “We believe that when the team of social workers come back with the correct information, our law enforcement agencies will also come on board and ensure that this matter is handled properly.”

“This is something we have never seen or heard of. We are hoping [that] when police start with their investigation on such an act, this man will soon be arrested,” he says.

Meanwhile, in August, the mother of a 13-year-old girl from Ritchie in the Northern Cape who was allegedly raped by their neighbour said her daughter’s life will never be the same.

She alleges that the 60-year-old man lured the young woman to his shack and raped her.

The mother says the man was like family to them.
