Reading Time: 2 minutes

Ntuthoko Shoba has once again distanced himself from a disputed phone number that convicted murderer Muzi Malepane had claimed he used to contact Shoba on several occasions. This was despite the fact that Shoba’s registered phone was picked up in the same vicinity as the disputed number.

Shoba is under cross examination at the high court in Johannesburg. He has been labelled as the mastermind behind the murder of Tshegofatso Pule.

Malepane testified that there was a number that he and Shoba used for communication prior to Pule’s murder. However Shoba has distanced himself from that number. State Prosecutor Faghre Mohammed has pointed out phone records and five different areas were Shoba’s phone was in the same vicinity as the disputed phone, when Malepane made contact with him.

The areas include Florida Park, Durban Deep, Cresta and Diepkloof. Shoba has been unable to comment of that evidence.

On Tuesday, Shoba also read out some WhatsApp messages between him and Pule, which painted a picture that although there were some disagreements and quarrels, he never wanted her to abort the baby.

Orders to kill

On Monday, Shoba denied that he gave Malepane any orders to kill Pule.

Malepane admitted to killing Pule but said it was under Shoba’s orders. Shoba has denied that he gave convicted murderer Malepane any orders to kill Pule. Shoba says he only contacted Malepane for cigarettes as they were banned during the hard lockdown.

“I wouldn’t even call it a relationship, he was an acquaintance. I got his number from my friend Sbusiso, Swagger because I wanted cigarettes. I met with Muzi on the 4th of June 2020 to buy cigarettes . I arrived in my vehicle, I parked at his house and he came out. He gave me a carton,” says Shoba.
