Seventh accused arrested in Limpopo Agriculture fraud

The seventh accused in the fraud and corruption case in relief funds in the Agriculture Department in Limpopo has been arrested and appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Polokwane.

Limpopo Hawks spokesperson Matimba Maluleke says the accused is among those who allegedly defrauded the department of over R2 million meant for relief for emerging farmers who were victims of floods in the Vhembe District.

Some department officials allegedly connived with farmers between 2013 and 2014 to submit fraudulent invoices in order to get kickbacks.

The accused, include senior officials at the level of chief director and quantity surveyor.

Maluleke says the accused will appear in court again at the end of this month.
