Matric candidates who wrote their 2023 examinations, administered by the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI), achieved a pass rate of 72%.
The 2023 exams were SACAI’s first as a fully accredited private assessment body and had about 5 826 candidates sitting for the exams between October and December last year.
The Institute mainly caters for candidates who study online and through distance education learning.
Following the COVID-19 outbreak in South Africa in 2020, many people considered online learning as an option after schools were closed due to a government-imposed lockdown.
SACAI Chief Executive Officer Keith Maseko says they are proud of their achievement.
Maseko says, “SACAI is proud of its 2023 matric class. We have managed to maintain a 72% pass rate. Despite the increase in the number of candidates that wrote with us, we are just short of a thousand increase of candidates that wrote the SACAI exams.”
