Religious leaders in Ga-Rankuwa traversed its length and breadth seeking divine intervention in the fight against COVID-19. This comes as Tshwane has been declared the COVID-19 epicentre in Gauteng.
The religious leaders say COVID-19 has hit home and affects all South Africans.
Prayer is a balm and brings much-needed respite. Adonai Christian Church Pastor, Ben Lekalakala says, “The purpose of today’s drive is to pray for COVID-19. It’s to pray God’s grace to save the frontline workers, to also pray for Tshwane as a whole.”
Community members shared their reasons for partaking in the COVID-19 drive-by prayer ceremony.
This is what some community members had to say. “I know as we pray together Modimo (God) will make a way,” says one resident. “I felt that it was important for me to be part of this because we are losing our loved ones,” says another resident.
SABC’s Ofentse Setimo and Thabo Mtshweni report:

Ga-Rankuwa is one of the townships hardest hit by COVID-19 in Tshwane. Community leaders welcomed the announcement of the arrival of the first batch of vaccines on Monday.
Ga-Rankuwa Ward 30 councellor Tshepo Kgatle says, “We think this month is a painful month for us because we lost one of our counsellors who was our leader, and today, we have to take three wards at the same time while we are waiting for intervention.”
The pastors also reiterated the message of wearing masks and maintaining social distancing, to flatten the curve of the virus.
