ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa

It’s understood that African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa won’t be part of the Sunday night  meeting with President Jacob Zuma to discuss his departure from office and to determine whether he will deliver the State of the Nation Address (SoNA) on Thursday.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the President’s official residence in Pretoria. It is expected the delegation will be led by the party’s Deputy President David Mabuza.

The National Executive (NEC) and Working (NWC) Committees had resolved last month that the top 6 officials handle the process of transition.

There’s been mounting pressure from within and outside the party for President Zuma to step down as Head of state. It’s believed if he stays on, he will hamper the party’s electioneering for 2019.

Reportedly, the best scenario would be if Zuma were to resign, to avoid an impeachment process being ignited. The much anticipated meeting is expected to discuss how exactly the transition should take place.

The sit down with the President follows the Top 6 programme to honor chiefs, Kings and Queens and religious leaders. Ramaphosa, Jessie Duarte, Ace Magashule and David Mabuza visited traditional leaders in Limpopo this weekend.

Chairperson Gwede Mantashe visited the St John’s Apostolic Church in Katlehong.
