Ramaphosa warns ANC members against wealth, power

African National Congress (ANC) president Cyril Ramaphosa has warned that those who see the ANC as a path to wealth, power and influence need to change their ways or leave the party.

In a letter to ANC members, on Sunday, Ramaphosa has conceded that the governing party is deeply implicated in the country’s corruption problems.

He has urged members facing corruption allegations to insulate the ANC from reputational damage by stepping aside while their cases are being heard.

This comes as the party faces severe criticism for redeploying former eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede to the provincial legislature in KwaZulu-Natal.

Gumede is out on bail of R50 000 for her alleged role in a Durban Solid Waste tender scandal.

In the letter, the ANC leader described COVID-19 corruption as “an unforgivable betrayal” of the millions of South Africans who have been negatively impacted by the pandemic.

Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize has reiterated that no healthcare worker should be exposed to the virus in their working environment without adequate training, protection and support, including the availability of PPEs.
