Ramaphosa issues warning in Parliament

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Where there is wrongdoing we will act. That’s the warning from President Cyril Ramaphosa to both members of his cabinet and the executive.

Ramaphosa issued the caution in the National Assembly where he was responding to oral questions from MPs.

The President also revealed that around 140 000 submissions from South Africans have so far been received on the issue of land expropriation without compensation.

An issue which has led to several incidents marked by violence and land grabs in some parts of the country.

The President says land grabs are not the way to go, as they won’t allow anarchy and disorder.

Ramaphosa was however non-apologetic about the African National Congress’ (ANC) resolution to expropriate land without compensation.

There was a rare moment of outburst from President Cyril Ramaphosa, in response to incessant chirping from Democratic Alliance (DA) Chief Whip John Steenhuisen.

This came almost two hours into his question and answer session in the National Assembly.

It had seen Ramaphosa respond to a number of questions ranging from his recent appointment of Special Envoys on Investment to the lack of action against those in both government and his cabinet who are accused of wrong doing.

Ramaphosa also expressed his and government’s concerns about the increase in femicides in a society that continues to reel from its violent past.
