Ramaphosa first 100 days described as hype without action

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Democratic Alliance has described President Cyril Ramaphosa 100 days in office as hype without action.  The party gave the President a performance score rating of 6 out 10.

It says his promise to fight corruption has been hamstrung by the ANC’s patronage to its corrupt leaders.  The DA says Ramaphosa’s swearing-in brought a new hope from the misrule of former President Jacob Zuma which almost brought the country to a junk status.

The party says factionalism within the ruling party have taken preference over his promises to the nation.

The main opposition party blame him for failing to take bold steps against corrupt leaders with close ties to Zuma.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane says Ramaphosa’s failure to reduce the size of the cabinet is also a challenge. ”  When you look at the cabinet it consists 35 ministers and 37 deputy ministers. Salaries of the ministers amount to R163.5 million in 2018 and R510.5 million over the midterm.”

The DA says despite the President’s hype to improve the economy, it remains nothing but rhetoric.  “We call on President Ramaphosa to introduce national civilian service where young people can enter work based training in the community health care, basic education and SAPS field.”

The DA’s  John Steenhuisen also raised an alarm about the spiralling violent protests, holding the president responsible for failing to appoint professionals in the security services. “Both the SAPS and our national intelligence services need a massive overhaul and what need to happen is that intelligence services are professionalised and are focussing on intelligence that affect national security of the country instead of focusing on factionalism within the ruling party.”

The DA also weighed in on the land expropriation without compensation.

They accuse him of promising the investors to act with caution on the land issue, whilst speaking a different language in the country.
