Reading Time: 2 minutes

The African National Congress (ANC) president Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulated the newly elected leadership of the African National Congress in Limpopo. Stan Mathabatha has been re-elected as the chairperson of the party in the province with Florence Radzilani elected as his deputy.

Ramaphosa commended delegates for being  disciplined despite legal battles hanging over procedures of the conference. He says the significance of the conference in the ANC cannot be over-emphasised as it comes at a critical point in the life of the party. Ramaphosa took a moment to call the party to unity.

“We need a mixed leadership; a leadership that has different perspectives different approaches voices to be brought together to enrich the processes of the ANC, so that we can move forward with real unity and renewal.”

Ramaphosa has called on the Alliance partners to work hard in ensuring that the Alliance is united.

The party named its top leadership. Mathabatha has been re-elected as the Limpopo ANC chairperson while a court battle to challenge the outcome of the conference looms.

The disgruntled group says it will return to the courts to argue that the party’s National Executive Committee endorsed an unlawful provincial leadership to go ahead with the conference.

On Saturday an urgent application to interdict the conference struck off the roll by the High court in Gauteng.
