Parts of Tshwane in the dark following alleged vandalism

Some parts of Tshwane, particularly the west of Pretoria, are without power following alleged vandalism that occurred at the Nyala In-feed substation.

The Metro says there was a shootout between gunmen believed to be cable thieves and the guards at the station on Tuesday night.

One security guard was killed.

Tshwane’s executive Mayor Celliers Brink says technicians are working around the clock to repair the damage.

“There was a criminal attack that occurred at our substation and we will investigate. But many of the cables have been repaired. But testing still needs to be done. But let me just say that some of that sets of cables … [were] leading to Capital Park. Which affects the protection of the cables of the Infeed substation,” explains Brink.
