Opposition political parties contesting today’s by-elections against the African National Congress (ANC) in Ward 2 at Tigane township at Hartebeesfontein in the North West are optimistic of victory in the highly contested ward. The by-elections follow the resignation of an ANC councillor.

Candidates from the ANC, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the Patriotic Alliance are contesting the by-elections. EFF Provincial Secretary, Papiki Babuile and Patriotic Alliance Candidate, Zongezile Sotyantya say their parties will emerge victorious.

“We are very hopeful and we believe that the people of this area are very tired of the ruling party and they have shown their support to the EFF throughout our campaign and we believe that today is the day they are going to hand over the power of leading this ward to the EFF,” says Babuile.

“Most definitely I am going to take this ward. Look this is a question of character versus party affiliation. So people are after the character not the name of the party,” says Sotyantya.
