NPA joins Zuma in appealing High Court decision

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is to join President Jacob Zuma in appealing against Friday’s judgment by the High Court in Pretoria, which set aside the appointment of NPA chief Shaun Abrahams.

The NPA says it’s filed notice of an application for leave to appeal. It also notes that the court order was suspended for a period of 60 days, and states that Abrahams therefore remains in his position as National Director of Public Prosecutions.

Friday’s High Court order also ruled that President Zuma could not appoint a new NDPP because of being conflicted, and gave Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa 60 days to make the appointment.
