Northern Cape MEC for Economic Development and Tourism Abraham Vosloo has conveyed his condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones in a fire at the Blinkwater Guest House near Witdraai at the weekend.

Seven people including five children died when their units which the three families were staying in were razed to the ground. The families were from Ceres in the Western Cape.

Northern Cape police search and rescue members have retrieved bones near the scene saying they cannot say at this stage whether they are those of the seven-year-old child who went missing during the blaze.

Police at Witdraai in the Northern Cape have opened an inquest docket.

Police say there were a total of 13 people in the guest house at the time.

Authorities say the bodies of two adults and five children were recovered from the structure. Five people managed to escape the flames.
