The N4 toll road between Malalane and Mbombela in Mpumalanga has been closed following an attempted cash-in-transit heist.
The Community Safety, Security and Community Liaison Department says the suspects failed to take the money and fled the scene after police disturbed them.
Department spokesperson Joseph Mabuza has advised road users to use alternative routes.
Mabuza says police are still busy investigating at the crime scene.
He says road users will be notified when the road has been opened.
