Eight have died in the car collision

Eight people have died after a combi and bakkie collided head-on at the Derby and Ventersdorp road in the North West.

North West Public Safety and Traffic Management Acting spokesperson, Yvonne Macoboza says after the collision, the cars caught fire which resulted in the burning of five passengers beyond recognition and leaving one with serious injuries.

“According to the Law Enforcement Authorities at the scene, both vehicles caught fire by the time of collision having seven people certified died on the scene, where five of them are reported to have burned beyond recognition and two were rushed to the nearest hospital whereby one passenger died on arrival and one still in stable condition,” Macoboza said.

“The bakkie was travelling from the Ventersdorp towards Derby with two people and minibus with seven people including the driver travelling from Derby towards Ventersdorp.”
