The South African Medical Association (SAMA) says Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has agreed to investigate safety in health care facilities across the country.

SAMA spoke to Mkhize after a patient was shot and killed at Witbank Hospital in Mpumlanga, the latest incident to happen.

The association’s spokesperson Dr Mzulungile Nodikida says, the minister agreed that the situation of safety in all hospitals is dire, especially after what happened Mpumlanga.

Nodikisa says, “The minister also informed us that he is got a team that is made up of heads of departments from all the other provinces that will meet with the team from SAMA and look at the proposal that SAMA has put forward.”

He said the association will also meet with the MEC for health in Mpumalanga Sasekani Manzini and Premier Refilwe Mtsweni Tsipane on Friday to further discuss issues relating to safety measures in hospitals.
