Meyiwa murder trial continues with witness cross-examination

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial continues on Tuesday with the cross-examination of witness Lieutenant-Colonel Nkosikhona Hadebe.

He conducted the pointing out of the crime scene with one of the five accused, Muzi Sibiya.

The defence alleges that Sibiya was tortured on several occasions and forced to participate in pointing out the crime scenes. However, Hadebe disputed that Sibiya was assaulted.

Meyiwa was fatally shot in 2014 at the home of Kelly Khumalo’s mother in Vosloorus on the East Rand of Gauteng.

While concluding her testimony, Magistrate Vivian Cronje was grilled for failing to act. This relates to when Ntanzi was taken to her for the alleged confession.

Accordingly, the accused complained to her about his eight days of detention without a court appearance.

Advocate Zandile Mshololo also questioned Cronje about her dismissing the assault on Tanzi. An interpreter at the Boksburg Magistrates Court, Tshepiso Motlhaping, was the state’s new witness on the stand.

Motlhaping was the interpreter the day accused number two, Bongani Ntanzi, made the alleged confession.

Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng cautioned lawyers about bringing up evidence that was never presented in court.
